Canterbury vs Cobra - COBRA 10's Finals 2007

Fast just got Faster

Ever wonder how an Olympic-speed sprinter would fare playing rugby sevens? American athlete Carlin Isles has proved that electric pace is just as exciting on the field as it is the track. The 23-year old is among the top 40 100m sprinters in the United States and holds a personal best of 10.13, which could have seen him qualify for the semi-finals of the London Olympics. But Isles has chosen to represent Team USA on the sevens circuit and has scored six sensational tries showcasing his blistering speed. Isles is unlikely to achieve a spot in the highly competitive USA track team for the Rio Olympics, but will fancy his chances to make the Games as a sevens player, as the sport is included at the Olympics for the first time in 2016.

Retaining the ball and turning over opposition ball wins games. Simple!!

Contact warm-up drills

Part of our warmups are focused on the wrestling and scrummaging required i the game. Mike Cron is an expert in this field. He coaches the All Blacks in this aspect of the game and has done so for the last decade. Watch these two clips for insights into what we are aspiring to achieve. Most of these can be done at home with a partner.
The first clip is a little scratchy but you should get the idea....

Passing Drills

Over the last two weeks we have have spent a large part of our focus on passing drills that require you to draw and pass. Watch the following clip to familiarize yourself further with the concepts from our trainings. Note, the body movement of the ball carriers approaching the tackler. The ball carrier tries to move the tackler away from the ball receiver hence creating space for receiver to penetrate the defensive line.
